In 1987 Roger became a founder of EEMA that today boasts more than 160 member organisations. He was Executive Director for over 27 years until 2014 and was awarded its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 in recognition of his service and contribution to the organisation and the IT security industry. One such highlight was the completion of the very successful PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) challenge which was undertaken on behalf of the European Commission. The challenge included PKI and authentication interoperability trials between 25 vendors from nine countries.

In addition to EEMA, Roger is also founding member of two ‘must attend’ events in the annual IT security calendar – Infosecurity Europe and the ISSE (Information Security Solutions Europe) conference which is now in its 16th year.

Throughout his career, Roger has been instrumental in establishing best working practices and influencing the formulation of standards, guidelines and the setting of legislation and industry regulation. He was involved in the formation and interoperability of many standards and standard bodies including X.400, X.500, XML, Web Services, e-procurement data and content standards. He also assisted with the creation of UNSPSC and is a founding director of ECCMA, which maintained the UNSPSC product and services classification.

Roger is a fellow of BCS, however, his contribution to IT security extends across Europe and beyond, participating in and chairing several UN and European Commission workshops. Currently he has been involved in a number of important EU projects – STORK 2SSEDIC, Future ID, FutureTrust and LIGHTest.
