Project recognised in Italy for the important contribution being made to pre-commercial procurement as an instrument for public sector innovation

BRUSSELS, 10th NOVEMBER 2016 – Cloud for Europe has been awarded with the National Award for Innovation 2016 of Italy. The award emphasises the projects important contribution to pre-commercial procurement as an instrument for public sector innovation. The aim of Cloud for Europe is to identify innovative solutions for cloud services that best fit public sector needs, but also provides better information to public procurers about the potential of cloud services.

Cloud for Europe received the award on September 20th 2016 in Rome, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Minister of Education, University and Research Stefania Giannini, the Minister for Public Administration Marianna Madia and the President of the Cotec-Foundation Luigi Nicolai.

Linda Strick from the Cloud for Europe project coordinators, Fraunhofer FOKUS, states: “We are honoured that Cloud for Europe is the recipient of this prestigious national award, especially as it acknowledges the innovation of this important project.”

The Cloud for Europe project is co-funded by the European Commission under the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP7). The three-year initiative began in 2013 and gathers 24 partners from 12 countries to address the objectives of the European Cloud Partnership and helps partners to adopt a well-defined European Cloud Computing Strategy for the public sector.

About Cloud for Europe

Cloud for Europe supports public sector cloud use as collaboration between public authorities and industry. The project identifies obstacles, finds innovative solutions and builds trust in European cloud computing.

Cloud for Europe uses pre-commercial procurement as an instrument for public sector innovation. The pre-commercial procurement identifies innovative solutions for cloud services that best fit public sector needs, but also provides better information to public procurers about the potential of cloud services.

The project started in June 2013 and runs until March 2017. It is co-funded by the European Commission under the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP7).
