Probably most known from Bitcoin, blockchain now seems to be all around us. More and more parties are investigating it. Some want to use it to overturn the way payments are now being handled by eliminating the current central payment service providers, some are building systems which already act as ledgers (eg in the diamond sector). Do we understand this technology fully? What is the difference between a permissioned system and an unpermissioned system? What if one or more parties are trying to commit fraud? We invite you to come and listen to an introduction on blockchain and get a glimpse on possible applications
Prof. Bart Preneel is a full professor at the KU Leuven, where he heads the COSIC research group that is a member of the iMinds research center. He has authored more than 400 scientific publications and is the inventor of five patents. His main research interests are cryptography, information security and privacy. He is president of LSEC vzw and has been president of the IACR. He has served as panel member and chair for the European Research Council. He is a fellow of the IACR, a member of the Permanent Stakeholders group of ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) and of the Academia Europaea. He has been an invited speaker at more than 120 conferences in 50 countries. He has testified for the European and Belgian Parliament. In 2014 he received the RSA Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics.
Luke Sully is Associate Partner – Security Services Global Center of Competency and Blockchain Security Services at IBM. Areas of competency include the development of security issues and responses for blockchain use cases, PoT’s and blockchain integration for financial services and industry clients. Mr Sully is on the board of the Chicago Bitcoin Center, Chicago’s Blockchain fintech incubator as well as a regular speaker internationally on the topic of strategic threats, security and cryptocurrencies.
