In his first EEMA Identity Blog post, Kim Cameron, Identity Architect at Microsoft Corp USA, explains how the characteristics of Blockchain can be very valuable to identity, but identity must use Blockchain in a way that is consistent with the laws of identity.  He shares his view that the Blockchain can be used to organise an identity system so that it isn’t dependent on any one company or any one government.

This approach has been talked about for some time now – it is seen as one of the most promising applications of Blockchain with interest from financial institutions, national governments, telcos, political and charitable institutions. Numerous organisations have built proof-of-concepts, prototypes and even solutions (based on very specific application use cases). It is to early to be able to say with any degree certainty yet whether it will solve all the issues technical, cultural and political that have arisen with the varied disparate solutions and attempts over the last 30 odd years.
