News > The passing of a cybersecurity great and an EEMA friend

It is with much sadness that this morning we learned of the passing of Howard Schmidt.

Howard was a long-time supporter of EEMA and we always considered it a privilege that he would take the time out of his always hectic schedule to participate in our events. Way back in 2003 he joined us in Budapest to provide the opening keynote at our ISSE conference, he came to London in 2009 for our European e-Identity Management Conference, and returned to ISSE again to give a  keynote in 2014 at our conference in Brussels.

Every time Howard spoke, it was to a full-house as people from all career backgrounds and nationalities were excited to hear what the former White House cybersecurity coordinator of the Obama administration had to say. What’s more, he never disappointed and was always one of our most popular speakers.

On behalf of the entire EEMA team, I thank Howard for his support and all our thoughts are with his family, many friends and former colleagues at this deeply sad time.
